Media about cake is very popular these days. If you've ever binge-watched "Cake Boss," you'll understand the hype. However, these days, consumers don't just want cakes that taste good - they should look really realistic, too. That's lead to a rise in fondant cakes plastered across social media, using a heavy layer of fondant to smooth out the cake's appearance and get creative with the decorating. 

Not everyone is in love with fondant, though. The stuff has a decent amount of haters on r/FondantHate. Here, Redditors gather to show off their cakes that look great, but probably taste like a big wad of couch cushion. (And some of the cakes don't even look good!) Bakers may love fondant, but they can't ignore the backlash of people who just want to eat a heckin' yummy cake without fondant.
